but his radio has overwhelmingly positive reviews; out of more than 1,270 customer reviews, over 790 are 5 stars, and the vast majority of the remaining reviews are 4 stars. Vine Voice reviewer Michael J. Edelman writes, “… When you look at the price they’re asking for the UV-5R, 5 stars hardly seems enough. This is a fantastic value.” He then goes on to point out that other two-way ham radios have chargers that alone are priced the same as the BaoFeng, but don’t provide any more quality than the BaoFeng does. He goes on to point out that there is a drawback for this radio, and that is that it is a challenge to program.
There is no data on the range of the device in the specs, but most users say that you can transmit for around 3Km if you’re in “average” terrain spot. In some locations, you might manage less than a Kilometer, but in others where you have plenty of wide open space, you could transmit for up to 5Km.
